I’m so glad I waited. Perhaps it’s kismet, as I was experiencing distracting professional and personal issues, as well as technical disturbances from “the gods”.

To sum up all of my postings from the last few days, my point would be that based on popular outcry here on the blog, from members in last week’s meeting audience, as well as from numerous Trustees themselves, the point was driven home that there should absolutely be adequate time set aside for consideration and discussion of issues coming before the Trustees for a vote, not only for those very same Trustees, but also for the residents themselves to review, discuss, comment and debate before a final vote on ANY substantive proposal.

It would appear that that message has perhaps finally registered with Debbie Herrmann and The Herd? By establishing this very Committee meeting, they’ve acknowledged that the new Board Policy need be offered up for comment and discussion. So we have some progress!

Most of which I wanted to say previously was to point out that there is no end to the numerous issues that need “hashing out”, and that in order to properly do so, you need an active Committee structure. And so we have our first “official” Committee Meeting! Party Time! Excellent!

HOWEVER – (come on Hitch, you knew it was coming)

What I had not yet discussed here dealt with the fact that as of yet, Herrmann has yet to OFFICIALLY finalize the Committee Structure, nor OFFICIALLY made the appropriate PUBLIC appointments to those Committees. Last I heard, Laurie and others were still awaiting those official committee assignments in writing from Herrmann. Nor has there yet to be any official acknowledgement at ANY Board Meeting from Herrmann on those Committee Chair assignments, nor official assignments of the requisite Board members that make up a Committee triumvirate.

As I said, it’s absolutely excellent that we have a Committee Meeting scheduled to discuss an issue, but I guess I missed the official assignment by Herrmann of these duties – IN A PUBLIC MEETING! I would have advised that Herrmann abandon her hope that there would be any majority endorsement of HER Committee structure as planned, the structure that would have cemented her absolute control upon those departments and existing controversies that certain political supporters would wish she would protect. And in doing so, along with the advanced goals of this “Policy Statement”, totally cut off virtually all governmental officials from critical observation and necessary action against same by ANY resident or concerned Trustee. You know, like this Policy Proposal, which creates what amounts to “terrorist cells” that are impregnable, whether based upon Trustee questions or those of the greater public. You know, the type of scenario in which she also assumes a questionable Chairmanship of the PD Committee, allowing assignment of all other “inconsequential” appointments to those of her opposition, and thus, protection from controversy.

So anyway, great, we’ll have a discussion. While we had Herrmann’s INITIAL pronouncements over which Trustees would have Committee Chairmanships, we NEVER were told which ones were to actually serve, nor were we IN ANY WAY, informed of her choices of the other 2 Committee members which make up a Committee.

So, here we are, forging ahead with a scheduled meeting, where NO FORMAL, PUBLIC assignments of Committee Chairmanship was made, nor ANY publicly noted assignments as to whom the additional Committee members are to be. Who comprises the mystery triumvirate of this Committee? I don’t know. I guess we’ll find out.

But I doubt the legality, or the MORAL import of holding a Committee meeting without having previously announced whom the members of that Committee are. How can you have a formally scheduled Committee Meeting without having first formally established that Committee? While Debbie Dearest DOES have the capacity in naming those very Committee members, the Trustees and RESIDENTS as a whole have a right to consider those appointments and comment and vote (as per block) accordingly on those appointments.

Since they’ve never had a chance to formally endorse any Committee assignments, how can this be considered an official Committee meeting?

However.........did you miss some postings or meeting tapes, DBTR? These tell the story of Laurie's misunderstandings of the meeting ordinance which contained the committee assignments. Sounds to me she is the reason there are no new committee assignments as she led the charge to defeat the ordinance. If a new ordinance isn't passed doesn't that mean the old ordinance stands? - that would mean the old committees are still in place. I recall one of the old committee titles was the "finance & adminstration committee" so doesn't that mean it still exists?

Check the records if your memory fails you - this is the SECOND posted meeting of this committee.

Dear Hitch,

You remain clueless.

As confused and apologetic as Trustee Rabattini was about the amendments sought by Mayor Herrmann, I would not consider Laure as leading the charge to defend the people's freedom of speech.

The vast majority of the residents who participate on this blog led the charge. Laurie provided the chariot.

Just as Trustee Verciglio was wrong in trying to find fault with Trustee Rabattini and demanding an apology… any lack of any progress from this new administration to move this town forward has been held up by the Mayor’s desire to control speech and actions by the Trustees.

That is the reason the Clerk is now doing her job by posting a special meeting to be held on a bulletin board somewhere. Thanks to Laurie…we are all being made aware of it.

No one is buying your whimsical nonsense.

Post something meaningful and intelligent on PRAVDA.

Hitch,
Please do not attempt to blame me for the lack of committee assignments. The amendment to incorporate the new committees failed. The Mayor then made appointments during a meeting but did not confirm them in writing as she said she would. Then, instead, at the last board meeting she said she was waiting for one of the naysayers to "change their mind" about the committees in the failed ordinance. So, if we NEVER change our mind, does that mean we will never be assigned a committee? You are barking up the wrong tree on this one. I'll take the blame when I'm to blame. The Mayor needs to move forward without her proposed new committees and stick to the existing ones in the existing ordinance. There is NO excuse to be this far into the term and not have committees assigned.

Laurie is correct in stating that the Mayor said at the last board meeting ..."she was waiting for one of the naysayers to "change their mind" about the committees in the failed ordinance".

The Mayor also stated that because there were no set committees she was acting as the head of those committee's...is she having meetings with herself and not telling anyone?

Apparently Trustee Mascillino is also having meetings with herself and producing agenda items to vote on.

Is there a pattern being developed here?

If none of the "naysayers" agree to relinquish their rights of free speech, what is the Mayor proposing to do to proceed forward.

This impasse requires leadership skills by the Mayor.

Unfortunately, I believe the Mayor picked the wrong subject to start a political battle on...the sooner the Mayor, and her allies, negotiate an acceptable resolution to the language in these administration policies, the sooner this town can start moving forward.

Trustees Verciglio and O'Malley need to be heard from.
