The parade begins at 10 a.m. at Kemper Valve (Burnett road). A picnic will be held following the parade at Veterans Park. It will be held between 11-2 offering free food, free games and activities for kids and adults. Also, a DJ and patriotic ceremony are planned.

Happy 4th of July all! The celebration of the birth of the greatest nation on Earth. This may be a good time to reflect on the men and women serving in the military, no matter where they are stationed, they are serving us. Also, think of the American soldier who has recently been kidnapped in Afghanistan. Think of the sacrifices so many have made so we may live more free than any man on Earth. Think of the citizens in Iran, protesting and demanding their voice (votes) be heard; a voice so loud, it is heard over the death of its protesters as life is something they are willing to give up in order to ensure a better future for their family and country. This is not too different from what our forefathers did when fighting for independence from English King; freedom to pursue their religion of choice without persecution; freedom to speak freely, and to form a government that would be the envy of the world, still, over two hundred years later.
While watching and enjoying fireworks where ever you decide to go, think of how the tradition began. As Francis Scott Key wrote the words of our national anthem during the war of 1812, as he watched a battle over the harbor, bombs bursting in the air, men fighting and in the end when the sun dawned, the American flag was still standing. I often wish I could have lived during the American Revolutionary period; not for the political turmoil, war and unrest, but the brave souls and hearts soaring for freedom and justice for all. I love our country, the way it is and I don't want it to change.
Let's all be thankful that we live in this great country. And while you may be experiencing some tough times, think of the people living in countries less fortunate than ours; less fortunate in their wealth, health, and freedom and lack of rights to the pursuit of happiness. liberty and justice. Salute our flag, salute our servicemen and women and love your family and appreciate the moment.
I will be celebrating, as I do every day for my fortunate luck to be alive in the United States of America. I love you America: Happy birthday!

The article on the front of the village newsletter about the parade says it starts at 10 a.m.
Appears bloggers don't have much to say about the July 4th village celebration - Is it they don't have anything to say because none of them attended? So much for love of country & Island Lake.
Nice bitchy comment there Hitch. Ya think maybe the blog is slow because of the holiday and people have been out enjoying themselves?
Change the H to a B would ya?

Fingers Asks: Hitch do you have a hand puppet to talk to, when you can’t post a facetiously isometric comment to the blog?
Hitch
I assume you were perhaps on a float at the parade with blogger vision goggles to know whether or not "bloggers" attended?
I don't know who you are and you don't know who I am so you can't very well honestly and knowingly say I wasn't there.

I was busy washing cars to pay for the fireworks from July 4 2008. Mayor Herrmann said I would get a gold star if I washed cars for the village.

Well, I was there with my family and we had a great time! I think Island Lake's little 4th of July parade is one of the best. It's not too long, so the kids and husband don't get hot, tired and cranky, and, whoa, do you pull in a lot a booty! Made my little 3 year old light right up! (Little did she know that her daddy and big brother were going to raid her stash while she took her afternoon nap!) Happy 4th, Everyone. I hope y'all got to take advantage of good weather, good neighbors and good fun!
