Hyde Acquited of Forgery Charges
DH story
Tom Hyde has been acquitted of the forgery charges that stemmed from accusations that he whited out the name on a liquor license for the well known bar and eatery, 3D/Sideouts in Island Lake. The accusation was that he changed the name on the licence. The defense attorney and witnesses testified that there was no intent to defraud, required for forgery.
The former Mayor still faces serious charges in connection with a ghost payroll scam involving his wife Sharon Hyde. In this case he is accused of voting to pay his wife for up to $110,000 for work she allegedly did not perform.

Village-wide Garage Sale Starts today!

The annual Island Lake village-wide garage sale event begins today, Friday, June 19 through Sunday, June 21. I'm told the Daily Herald will publish the map of garage sale participants. If I can find it online, I'll put it up here for everyone. If not, part of the fun of garaging is driving around finding the sales, isn't it? Have you ever been garaging and you see a sign leading to another sign to yet another sign and so on... only to never find the sale! Perhaps they didn't take their signs down from the weekend before, it couldn't be my lack of navigational skills.
One of my most prized garage sale bargains is Moosie; a plush stuffed animal Moose in which I paid $1 during a garage sale day with my mother-in-law. Did I mention prior to paying for him, I body slammed him on the ground as I ran from a huge, probably 25 pound mean and vicious killer yellow jacket who was out to kil
l me. Yes, that particular yellow jacket was indeed out to kill me. (ha ha ha). Well, needless to say, I got away from the yellow jacket and left with my new moose. Next, it was our mission to find clothes for Moosie; afterall, he needed to dress in style. I said it would be great to find a Bulls t-shirt; next garage, mission accomplished! We found a baby Bulls outfit and we really lucked out with a Cubs T-shirt that fit Moosie perfectly.Moosie is priceless, not just because he's so darn cute but because I shared that day with a close family member and we had fun and made memories to last our lifetime. Today, nearly 10 years later, Moosie still has his own special spot in my home. You wont find Moosie at my garage sale!
